Ebooks, Help Site - July 2021 Update

Welcome to the v5.3.0 release of Museums for Digital Learning. There are several updates in this version that we hope you will like, some of the key highlights include:

  • Ebooks
  • Resource Kit and Ebook Requirements
  • New Help Site

Ebooks

Introducing ebooks! An ebook is an immersive, interactive storytelling experience with a focus on building literacy for K-5 students. Creating ebooks focused on older students is also encouraged!

To create an ebook, Login to MDL and navigate to the “Ebooks” page. The ebook creation process is just like the Resource Kit creation process which you are already familiar with. You can apply the same tags, standards, grade levels, student and educator materials to ebooks as you can with Resource Kits. An ebook is made up of multiple Sections which each contain blocks of rich text, images (and image slideshows), videos, audio, discussion questions prompts, and quizzes.

Like Resource Kits, the documentation for ebooks will include templates. These templates are currently being developed by our partners and will be coming soon so stay tuned! At the moment public discoverability of ebooks created on MDL is limited (i.e. we have yet published the ebooks search page). As ebooks are created and published on the platform, we will launch the ebooks search page.

New Resource Kit and Ebook Requirements

To encourage quality resource kits and ebooks we have implemented the following 2 requirements

  • A resource kit must contain at least 3 activities to be published
  • An ebook must contain at least 3 sections to be published.

Help Site

We are excited to see an increasing number of institutes taking interest MDL. To improve our onboarding processes and provide better resources for your questions we would like to introduce the MDL Help Site https://help.museumsfordigitallearning.org/. The help site will include video tutorials, access to the resource kit and ebook templates, frequently asked questions, a blog of our newsletter, and more. The MDL Help site will be easily accessible from the backstage through the new backstage navigation bar.
